Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Malaysia, tanahairku! Tempat ku dilahirkan.

Each year on August 31, Malaysia celebrates its National Day. This historic event is celebrated in joyous mood by Malaysians from all walks of life. Malaysians too, display their love for the country by proudly flying the Jalur Gemilang or the national flag. A host of activities is held in each state including parades, exhibitions of Malaysia's history and fireworks displays, culminating in a grand parade attended by their Majesties, the King and Queen, the Prime Minister, dignitaries and the public.

As we all know, Malaysia is a thriving developing country, often considered a “role model” by its Southeast Asian neighbours for its economic and political stability, multicultural harmony and steady progress. The next 31st August 2010 will mark the 53th year of this country's independence from British colonialism and the day the joyful shouts of “Merdeka, Merdeka, Merdeka!” resonated throughout the nation as Malaya's first Prime Minister, Allahyarham Tunku Abdul Rahman stood on a podium doing the same shouting.

In history aspect, the name Malaya was then changed to Malaysia when the country was officially made a federation of 13 states including Sabah and Sarawak. Although Singapore broke away and became a nation of its own in 1965, the rest of the states have remained firmly together, making Malaysia in harmonious cultures until today.

On the day, it reminds us on the history of Malaysia. The spirit of patriotism felt in our heart and has big influence in ourselves to love our country sincerely with full commitment.

p/s: I am proud to be Malaysian. Malaysia is a great country...
