How To Improve Digestive Process During Pregnancy?

Usually, many women experience digestive problems during her pregnancy. Many women experience nausea and vomiting during the first trimester of her pregnancy. Due to hormonal imbalance, the digestive tract gets affected. During pregnancy, a hormone named progesterone is produced which causes muscles to contract and hence the process of digestion becomes slower. A woman usually experiences gastrointestinal problems that affect the gastrointestinal tract, esophageous, small intestine, rectum and then primarily the stomach.



Problems due to digestion
So, due to GI problems, a woman experiences different symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, hypermesis gravidarium, gallstones, gastroesophageal reflux disease, diarrhea etc during pregnancy. These problems can further lead to problems such as thyroid disorders, viral or bacterial problems, food intolerance, etc.


How to resolve the gastrointestinal problems caused during pregnancy?

A woman should not immediately seek for doctor’s advice because she can follow many useful tips at home. If she is experiencing severe problems during pregnancy, then she can consume medicine for digestion in pregnancy.

Eat healthy food

A woman should eat green vegetables, food containing proteins, fruits or any other vegetables, and cereals. She should avoid eating sugary or processed food, junk food or food containing higher caffeine levels. She can also meet a dietician who can recommend her to develop an individualized healthy eating plan.

Fluid intake

A woman should consume plenty of fluids during pregnancy. So, she should drink plenty of water, clear soups, or fruit juices during pregnancy. So, by drinking plenty of fluids, a woman can keep the digestive tract properly. But, she should avoid soft drinks or processed drinks. She can always stay hydrated if she drinks water or fluids frequently.

Exercise

She should perform some workouts after consulting a physician. She should do some light exercises for 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week. So, she can inhale more oxygen to her body.

Medications during pregnancy

Usually the doctors recommend antacid during pregnancy. Some women are also prescribed with digestive enzymes and some with antidiarrheals. Different women experience different problems during her pregnancy and hence they are prescribed with different types of medications. The antacid medicine is meant for women who experience hyperacidity problems. The digestive enzymes are meant for speeding up the digestive process etc. Some women who are constantly experiencing nausea or vomiting can consume vitamin B6 or other prescription treatment that can cause relief. A woman can also use mild laxative during her pregnancy. Sometimes, a bulk-producing agent also can also relieve the discomfort and hence a woman can consume Metamucil. Some women constantly experience constipation and hence the doctors suggest stool softeners that contain decussate. Some woman also consumes Colace that does not cause any harmful effects.

A woman can take some digestive system medicine to treat GI problem. Some women who are suffering from poor appetite problem usually consume enzyme capsule. They break the vital nutrients in the body such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates in the body. To improve the digestion process, a person can consume array of amylase, lipase enzymes, and protease or stomach acid pH.
