6 Unexpected Benefits of Knitting

7/30/2019 09:03:00 pm 0 Comments
Knitting may not be the first thing that you think of when considering a new hobby, but it should be! In fact, knitting has enjoyed a huge resurgence in popularity and it’s not just with older people.

Many younger people are enjoying the benefits of knitting, you may be surprised at how beneficial it can be!

1. Stress Release

We live in a very stressful world, between being always connected and the demands of work and family, it can be very hard to find the time to unwind.

Yet, excessive stress levels are linked with a variety of diseases. It’s essential that everyone learns how to distress, knitting may be the thing you need.

When you knit you will be focusing purely on the stitch you’re doing and the one after that. You will effectively discover downtime from the stressful events in your life and actually lower your stress levels.

2. It’s Fun

You may not think it at first but, once you’ve mastered a few basic stitches it’s actually fun to create something. Especially, as you can see it coming together in your hands.

Not only will you enjoy the process of creating your own garment or another item, but you’ll also feel a sense of pride when you’ve completed it.

3. Make Friends

Knitting can be done by yourself at home but it doesn’t have to be. You can knit with friends, meet them physically, or even chat about your knitting on line. In short, you’ll have the opportunity to meet lots of new people and share your ideas and inspiration.

You may be surprised at just how many new friends you can make with one simple activity.

Don’t forget there are also plenty of trade fairs and other events to attend which will give you another opportunity to connect with others.

4. Cost-Effective

You can go to an online wool supplier and purchase almost any type of yarn for extremely competitive prices. Other than needles you need very little to start knitting. This actually makes knitting extremely cost-effective, it’s cheaper than purchasing clothes and allows you to make your own, distinctive designs.

Best of all, you’ll be able to purchase wool as and when you can afford it, meaning that you’ll hardly notice the indent in your wallet.

5. Improved Motor Function

Sliding a stitch onto a needle and then off, onto the other one takes coordination. This may seem difficult at first, but, once you get the hang of it you’ll find it quite easy.

The process of sliding stitches on and off will make sure your fingers are working properly. In fact, research suggests that this type of activity can actually improve your motor skills, particularly the fine hand movements that make such a difference to your quality of life.

6. Prevents Arthritis

The constant movement also helps to prevent the development of arthritis. This is because it helps to keep your bones and other body parts strong, reducing the risk of weakness and tension, which can lead to arthritis and other issues.

POND'S Launches World's First AI-Powered Skin Diagnostic Chatbot

7/19/2019 09:02:00 am 6 Comments
New Skin Advisor Live (SAL) bot integrates rich clinical research data with diagnosis technology to take the confusion out of diagnosing common skincare concerns

SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - 18 July 2019 - Beauty brand POND'S today announced it is launching the world's first AI-powered skin diagnostic chatbot which, using a combination of advanced AI and skin diagnosis technology, will help consumers combat skincare concerns across four main areas -- uneven skin tone, spots, pimples and wrinkles.

The Skin Advisor Live bot, named 'SAL', embraces Google's highly superior neuro-linguistic programming and BrighTex BioPhotonics's (BTBP) DeepTag skin diagnosis technology to offer consumers advanced skin diagnoses through an intuitive and fun chat.

BTBP's DeepTag technology - a patented skin map technology from Silicon Valley -- and clinical research data from The POND'S Institute will be utilized to deliver skin diagnoses of unparalleled accuracy and of a higher consistency match rate compared to dermatologists.

Using their highly customized diagnosis from SAL, combined with product recommendations backed by years of in-depth research by POND'S, consumers are able to select a reliable personal skincare product and regime recommendation to help meet their particular skincare needs.

SAL is available in Indonesia via messenging app, LINE, and Argentina, Columbia, United Arab Emirates and South Africa via Facebook Messenger.

"POND'S has always been known for providing consumers with expert skincare and making beauty more accessible," says Rohit Bhasin, Global Brand Vice President, POND'S, Unilever. "We recognise how confusing and overwhelming it can be for anyone to pick the right skincare products when there are so many choices.

"We want to use technology to solve this problem, by helping consumers gain a deeper understanding of their skin type and matching them with the most effective products. With SAL, consumers can build and optimise their skincare regime -- via popular social messaging apps -- through this science-based, data-led skin diagnostic tool."

How is skin diagnosed?

Consumers upload a selfie, complete a short quiz and their customized results will be ready in under a minute.

How does SAL diagnose skin?

Skin will be analyzed by BTBP DeepTag's advanced AI technology and results will be classified across four indicators of skin health: uneven skin tone, spots, pimples and wrinkles.

"We believe that skincare should be built upon a deep knowledge and understanding of each individual's skin," says Judy Mao, Research and Development director for POND'S's Global Design, "This is why we worked with BTBP to create SAL to help consumers diagnose their skin easily. SAL is a game-changer when it comes to skin diagnoses and our product recommendation tool is backed by years of consumer research and product trials. The POND'S Institute will continue to explore innovative ways to help consumers improve their skin health."

Speaking on behalf of BrighTex BioPhotonics, Raj Chhibber, CEO says, "We are delighted to collaborate closely with POND'S to bring a smarter skincare regime to consumers around the world bringing a new level of accuracy on the skin diagnostic results, resulting in a more accurate skincare products and regime recommendation."

About POND'S

What To Do When Your Clothes Smell Musty After Washing

7/18/2019 09:19:00 pm 2 Comments
Few things are as frustrating as musty, damp smelling clothes which is why it is important to know the right steps to take to prevent and eliminate the musty smell after washing.

This can happen if you leave them in the washing machine for too long after a cycle, or if the house is damp, or drying them too slowly. Wet clothes are extremely susceptible to aromas

Potential Causes Of Musty Smelling Clothes

There are several reasons why your clothes may end up smelling musty. An awareness of what these reasons are can help to prevent it from happening.

Chemical Detergents

Most mainstream detergents are full of chemicals. While these may smell fantastic when you open the bottle, this doesn’t mean you’ll be getting the same smell on your freshly washed clothes.

In fact, the chemicals in your chosen detergent will help the buildup of biofilms in your washing machine. These are small bacteria which grow and interfere with the natural washing process. The bacteria are similar to those that cause mold, hence the musty smell on your clothes.

You can eliminate this by choosing a natural fabric care solution. Make sure it has no harsh chemicals and you’ll be making the right steps.

Clean Your Machine

As mentioned above, your machine can develop a lining of bacteria, known as biofilm. This will reduce its ability to clean clothes and encourage the musty smell.

You may not think about cleaning the washing machine but it’s a good idea to do the following periodically:
  • Add 2 cups of white vinegar to your detergent tray
  • Turn on the machine, the rinse setting should suffice
  • Now add ½ cup bleach into the detergent tray
  • Run the machine again on the rinse cycle.
  • Remove the detergent tray and scrub it in the sink, if possible.
  • To finish run one more rinse cycle with no additives.

Take Your Clothes Out Quicker

One of the most common issues is leaving the clothes in the machine long after the wash cycle has finished. This allows the damp aroma to settle on the clothes because they are damp and in a confined environment.

It is also important to note that the hotter the water temperature the quicker the musty smell will appear.

You’ll need to take the clothes out as soon as possible after the machine has finished, using the delayed start may help.

The Right Amount Of Detergent

It is possible that you’re not using enough, or are using too much detergent. You may even be using the wrong detergent, although switching to a natural one as mentioned above will certainly help.

Not putting enough detergent in will prevent your clothes from being cleaned properly. This will effectively leave dirt on your clothes, even if it’s not visible to the human eye, making the clothes smell.

Alternatively too much detergent means that the machine will be unable to rinse your clothes properly, this leaves detergent on the clothes which creates the musty aroma.

Check how much detergent you should be using and use the right amount!
