“MAMIL® MOMME SATURDAY” SHARES WITH MOTHERS TIPS TO TURN HARD TIME TO GOOD TIME

Mamil®, with its long-standing expertise in child nutrition, shares information with mothers on how to manage their children’s constipation problem. Constipation in children is a common problem faced by many mothers. A group of mothers learned that proper nutrition and good digestive health play important roles in helping to manage this childhood problem at the third Mamil® MomMe Saturday held in Johor Bahru.

“At Mamil®, we understand that mothers strive to set the right foundations for their children’s growth and overall well-being. As an expert in child nutrition, we want to be part of this important journey with mothers and help nurture their little loved ones through good nutrition. In this Mamil® MomMe Saturday event, we understand the issue of constipation, and why good digestive health is a significant factor,” said Ms Jane Ee, Marketing Manager of Danone Dumex (M) Sdn Bhd. “Mamil® contains internationally patented prebiotics oligosaccharide mixture GOS/lcFOS (9:1) that can maintain a good intestinal environment.”

Hosted by celebrity mom Aishah Sinclair, the program included a talk by guest speaker, Dr Lim Kia Suan, a consultant paediatrician from Joycare Pediatrics, who shared on how moms can “Turn Hard Time to Good Time”.

Identifying the Hard Time

According to Dr Lim, constipation happens when children pass hard stools or do not empty their bowel regularly.  “The signs and symptoms may include children having less than two bowel movements a week; bowel movements that are hard, difficult and painful to pass as well as traces of stool on the underwear,” said Dr Lim.

Dr Lim explained that constipation in children is often caused by a combination of factors, such as insufficient fibre and fluid intake in their diet, lack of physical activity, unfamiliar surroundings as well as behavioural issues related to negative potty-training experiences.

“Constipation is quite common in young children and if it is not properly managed, its effects can be far reaching – children who experience constipation often feel stomach pain or discomfort, feel irritable, with poor appetite. In addition, they have to strain while trying to pass hard, dry stools, which is painful and can affect them psychologically, causing them to fear going to the toilet,” explained Dr Lim. “This creates a vicious cycle, which is why it’s important to tackle the problem at its root.”

How to Keep the Good Time Going!

Dr Lim advised mothers on ways to support a healthy digestive system which helps in the management of constipation:

  • Increase their child’s intake of fruits, vegetables and water as these are the main ingredients for helping children overcome constipation.
  • Create a positive potty-training experience; be mindful of signs their child may be withholding the urge to poo because they are too busy playing or simply do not like potty training, especially if they are pushed to toilet train before they are ready.
  • Include prebiotics in their child’s diet to stimulate the growth of good bacteria in the intestine, thereby supporting good digestive health and passing of softer stools.

Mamil®’s internationally patented prebiotics oligosaccharide mixture of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and long chain fructo-oligosaccharides (lcFOS) at a ratio 9 to 1 can help to maintain a good intestinal environment.

According to studies, GOS/lcFOS (9:1) increases the beneficial bacteria, decreases the growth of harmful bacteria, support stronger gut protective barrier and promote softer stools for easier bowel movement.
